German learners at B1 level, teachers preparing students for the Goethe-Zertifikat B1 or ÖSD-Zertifikat B1 exams, and anyone interested in the vocabulary required for this level.

The word list is a collaborative product of the Goethe-Institut, the University of Freiburg/Switzerland, and the ÖSD. The authors include Manuela Glaboniat, Michaela Perlmann-Balme, and Thomas Studer, with contributions from Naomi Shafer and Eva Wiedenkeller.

The word list was created in 2016 as a reference for the Goethe-Zertifikat B1 and ÖSD-Zertifikat B1 exams, which are based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
